Wisdom teeth extractions are one of the most common oral surgery services that we provide at our specialty practice. Because of the location and anatomy of wisdom teeth, they often become impacted or more challenging to remove than a typical dental extraction. As such, many of our Tustin, CA patients are referred to us for wisdom tooth extractions by their family or pediatric dentists. Dr. Thiede is a licensed sedation provider, with over 20 years of experience providing expert wisdom teeth extractions for even the most complex of cases.
To determine if you need to extract impacted teeth, we can take x-rays or use our Cone Beam CT scan to produce digital images of your mouth to determine the position and size of your third molars. Your family dentist may have already taken these and sent them to our office. If you haven’t had an exam, we’ll need to determine if there is room for your wisdom teeth to come in, how they’re relating to adjacent teeth, and if they’re predisposed to infection.
Wisdom teeth tend to be at an increased risk of concerns because of how challenging they are to clean. When they do erupt, it’s usually only a partial amount because of the way the jaw is shaped. Proactive wisdom teeth extractions can reduce your risk of damage to neighboring teeth.
Our Tustin, CA practice offers in-house sedation dentistry, including general and IV sedation to help you feel comfortable and relaxed during treatment. You might even sleep through it!
We recommend taking a few days off from school or work to rest and recover. The recovery process shouldn’t be very painful. Ice packs or frozen bags of peas may help with swelling and discomfort.
Controlling swelling is key to limiting discomfort. We may recommend an over the counter anti-inflammatory or prescribe a mild pain reliever. Our laser and piezo surgical resources make recovery easier after wisdom teeth removal.
Stock up on soft foods for the first several days after wisdom teeth extraction.
Whether a teen or adult, or have a simple or complex case we are skilled and equipped to comfortably remove your wisdom teeth.
